Amazon.com Product Description
Essentially a scaled-down motocross bike with an electric motor, the Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket is ideal for teens who want to enjoy the dirt bike experience without breaking the bank. The Dirt Rocket's powerful 500-watt motor carries riders at speeds of up to 17 miles per hour--more than enough for most bumpy dirt trails--and can cruise for up to 10 miles on a single charge. At the same time, the bike's dual suspension and riser handlebars deliver a smooth and comfortable ride regardless of the terrain, so your teen's fun isn't restricted to flat pavement. As a final bonus, the Dirt Rocket's variable-speed, chain-driven motor is extremely quiet, a marked contrast to traditional gas-powered motocross bikes.

Other details include large pneumatic knobby tires for a maximum power transfer, authentic dirt bike frame geometry, a retractable kickstand, and a double-crown fork. The MX500, which requires roughly eight hours to fully charge, is recommended for ages 14 and over and offers a maximum weight limit of 175 pounds. It's also backed by a 90-day warranty.

Product Description
The Razor Dirt Rocket MX500 is a bigger and faster version of the MX350 and is perfect for ages 14 and up. The Razor MX500 carries riders up to 175 pounds at speeds up to 17 mph and is equipped with large 14" and 16" pneumatic knobby tires for maximum power transfer.

The chain-driven, variable speed motor gives the Razor MX500 its kick, but because the bike is electric, the motor is super quiet; a distinct advantage over the other gas-driven and noisy scaled-down dirt bikes. The Razor's front fork is easily assembled; universal flat/Phillips head screwdriver and Allen wrenches are included.

FEATURES:

  • Speeds up to 17 mph
  • Carries riders up to 175 pounds
  • Can travel up to 10 miles on a single charge
  • Large 16" and 14" pneumatic knobby tires geared for dirt
  • Dual suspension and riser handlebars for a smooth and comfortable ride
  • Variable speed, chain-driven motor for super quiet and powerful operation
  • Twist-grip throttle acceleration
  • Double-crown fork
  • Dimensions - 53" x 21" x 31"
  • Up to 40 minutes of riding time on a single charge
  • Battery charge time: up to 8 hours
  • 36V (three 12V) sealed lead acid battery system
  • Powerful 500w electric motor
  • Read and understand the enclosed owner's manual before riding. Safety equipment such as a helmet, elbow and knee pads are recommended. Use this product only in controlled environments free of potential traffic hazards and not on public streets.

5 out of 5 stars My Son LOVES his MX500   February 8, 2010
Joyce Bloomer (McDonough GA)
This is by far the best product that I have purchased in years. It is made very well and my son enjoys it every day.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   January 30, 2010

Great bike. Well put together. Battery seems strong. Definitely fast. However, I bought it for my 6yo. It's a little too big for him. He can ride it real slow now, but I should have bought the next size down. My 11yo loves it. It will just be a year or two before the 6yo can get full enjoyment from the bike.

5 out of 5 stars Great bike!   January 9, 2010
lahriegirl (FLORIDA, US)
We purchased two of these for our boys ages 9 1/2 and 8. Assembly was not difficult - my husband left them in the internal packing to install the front wheel and handle bar so that the bike was stable and in an upright position. They are very well made and have some weight to them - definitely NOT cheap construction! The boys LOVE their bikes - they ride them every day. I would highly recommend this as a transition between bicycles/electric scooters and gas powered bikes/4-wheelers.

Just a quick thought for any parent concerned about the inevitable crashes: Both of our boys crashed within the first week; one was a moving collision with the Razor go-cart, and the injuries were no worse than with bicycles - road rash on knees and elbows (and NO injuries to our child on the go-cart). Minor scratches and a bent foot peg were the only damages on the bike. They ALWAYS wear helmets while riding - no exceptions.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Christmas Gift!   December 15, 2009
Central Coast, RC (California)
We purchased the MX500 last Christmas for our 7 year old son and it was a hit! 1 year later, still runs like new with the exception of the rear wheel which we recently replaced due to a cracked axle. Not an unreasonable repair considering how hard my son is on the bike, the rear wheel assembly is inexpensive and easy to swap out! If your considering the MX 500 for your son or daughter this Christmas do it, the bike will not dissapoint! Caution, all the neighbor kids will want to ride it too....

4 out of 5 stars Good Bike. Should have bought the mx650 for 50 more   November 30, 2009
A. Langsam (USA)
Delivered in two days for the best price on the internet. Cant beat Amazon. Took about 30 minutes to finish assembly. Its mostly put together - just handlebars front wheel and a number plate. Goes for a long time on a charge. My 10 year old is having a blast on it in our very large backyard. So far its been durable after a few weeks of beatings...

The one thing i would say is that it could use a little more oomph off the line. I didnt realize the mx650 is the exact same size but with 30 percent more power for 50 bucks extra. they market it to 16 year olds. A 10 year old is just fine IMO. I think a 16 year old would want a bigger gas powered bike IMO.
