5 out of 5 stars Quick N EZ is Correct   August 23, 2010
Sean Benham (Chicago, IL USA)
I had this bike trailer out of the box and connected to my bike literally within minutes. This trailer will work on all bicycles since the only part that's work is removing either your bike's back bolt on the wheel (or quick-release) and sliding this tap and connect into it then tightening it back. This then connects to your trailer. So simple. There's no installation required for the trailer. It unfolds and locks, then the wheels lock on the sides. Lots of cargo space, nice design. Seems durable. Worth the price.

This bike trailer has been great for our family. My daughter love going for bike rides.

3 out of 5 stars InStep Quick N EZ Trailer Review   August 15, 2010

First things first. Most of the other reviews are fairly accurate. I've Owned this product for a couple of weeks and have only TODAY been able to make use of it because of CHEAP PLASTIC WHEELS to which the tire bead does not fit to well nor does it have adequate casting/machining tolerances. The first two tubes POPPED though inflated to the recommended 35 PSI. So, I spent $5.99 each on 2 more inner tubes, replaced them and pumped them to 30 PSI. 2 days later, POP - both of them. Try it one last time down to 28PSI and ensure that the bead is as close as possible to the rim when mounting/inflating. Finally went for a ride with my 2 year old. She absolutely loved it! Problem is, 2 hours later, POP yet again - 1 blown inner tube.

I should tell you that I'm not a boob. I'm a 39 year old mechanical engineer, car nut who has replaced engines, transmissions, am a motorcycler, carpenter, and general tinkerer with decades of bicycle repair behind me. So it's not as if this is the first time I've inflated and mounted tires on bikes let along motorcycles and cars.

Overall, the unit is very good (discounting the tire/wheel issue). The mounting mechanism is great and works even on my dual suspension MTB. I thought it would be a terror to pull with diapers, wipes, a 33lb little girl, etc. It's not bad at all. I did about 5 or 6 miles today, my first time out. My kid was giggling the whole time and practically every passerby was gawking and smiling in approval. She was comfortable and nowhere near touching the ground - very comfortable. I don't know about the ventilation issues but my girl was not perspiring nor was there any lack of adequate air flow. I wasn't riding in dirt but a bit of a gravely road. Yet, nothing was kicked up into the trailer (the net was down but not the rain shield). I opted to leave the handle off and travel without the third wheel for weight savings.

If I had to buy a trailer again, I would definitely look at a unit with metal wheels and spokes. Even my local bike store (to which I was forced to make several trips too - grrrr!) said that plastic wheels are notorious for not seating the bead right.

4 out of 5 stars Great Product   August 7, 2010

I asked for this as my "big gift" for Christmas 2010 after my son was born. I've waited nearly nine months to post my comments so I could use it and give a thorough review.

I was reluctant to go with InStep as it appeared to be a cheaper, lower-grade product. However, I've been so happy with this trailer and would highly recommend it for anyone. It's easy to assemble and simple to attach to the parent bike. It also rides very smoothly and provides the "passengers" with great coverage. My son loves it!

I hardly use it in "stroller mode", but I'd probably find that to be clunky and cumbersome.

The trailer packs up very well for transportation. The only thing that prevents me from giving this product a perfect rating, however, is that it doesn't sit well on my bike rack.

All in all ... very great product. I'm satisfied with it and don't see any reason to pay more for another brand.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Kids and Stuff at the Beach Mover   July 24, 2010
music on vinyl (Pennsylvania vintage)
This might be the third review I've taken the time to write in the past 5 years. Every once in a while you just have to let everybody else know how a purchase you've made really delivers on the promise. The InStep Quick N EZ bicycle trailer made my week in Ocean City, New Jersey much more enjoyable then if had just relied on my traditional Little Red Wagon to scoot the kids and stuff down to the water.

Before purchasing, I read a couple of reviews on Amazon to see what the consensus was...and I can see I'm not the only fan of the InStep trailers. On the trip down to the water from the beach house (that is a few too many blocks away) I was able to shuttle one 4 year old, two boogie boards, two beach chairs, 4 towels, 2 stuffed backpacks, an umbrella, a bucket and shovel, cooler, multiple shoes and hats and some other stuff. There is an area behind where the rider (or riders) sit. It's cavernous. This trailer would work great for somebody who wanted to run errands with their bike in the city. You could pick up furniture with this thing (100lbs capacity).

I looked at the aluminum and steel versions. I've gotta say the Aluminum was a little lighter, but the steel framed trailer struck me as much more willing to suffer abuse. The carrying capacity is the same and the steel one is half the price. After living with the trailer for a week, I'm happy I chose the steel. Very robust.

This thing folds up to the size of a folded beach chair. Amazing. The wheels pop on and off very easily for storage and I prefer the nylon wheels as opposed to the spoked. The nylon wheels seem indestructible. (I'm guessing they are some type of nylon or composite plastic).

The Instep was also great going from the boardwalk down to the sand during the day with all of the necessary items. It pulled through the hot sand (in stroller mode - not attached to the bike of course) with little effort. It was loaded down pretty well (with stuff...no kids...they hoofed that part). Much better machine for the job than the wagon.

At the end of the day when it was time to head the 10 blocks or so down to the boardwalk the Instep delivered again. It happily carried one 6 year old and one 4 year old (70-80 lbs. combined) right down to the where the action was. It's very easy towing and the kids were as happy as they would be on a coach ride through Central Park. Great fun for them. I had some small clip on LED lights (one red and one white) that I attached to the InStep and my bike with the included velcro straps (see link). The lights had a flashing feature that lit my bike and trailer up enough as we rode along the sidewalk at night. I was happy I had them.

I have not a single complaint. Could I think of some improvements? Probably. Sure the "seats" could be more home theater like....but it's a lightweight bicycle trailer. They worked fine. The buckles and straps are ok. Not perfect...but fine.

I forgot to mention how great the "coupler" or "hitch" works. Very easy to connect and disconnect the trailer from the bike. Ingenious system. I would caution that you do need a 1/2 radius free and clear around the non-chain side of your rear axle for the bike side of the hitch system. This would be the flat part of the frame that the axle nut tightens against. I think the majority of bikes would have this, but there will be a few that don't.

Here is the link to the lights I had: Planet Bike Spok Light Set

I love my Instep Quick N EZ bike trailer!
