Good short-distance commuter bike October 3, 2009 Z. Zhou (New York, NY USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've purchased this bike for almost three months and ride it everyday to school (about 5 miles round trip with a deep uphill on each way). It's a good bike with decent build and nice look. Occasionally I hear compliments of this bike on the street. And in the past three months it had no problems except one flat. As a short-distance commuter it does a good job.
But this bike has the following weaknesses:
* It came half-assembled. This is not a problem for me because I assemble furniture and computers at home all by myself. But you have to buy tools to do the job (I bought an allen wrench set and a 10-inch adjustable wrench for $15 and these are all I need to assemble the bike). And you have to be careful on each screw because Amazon may have installed some screws but left them loose. If you are not experienced in assembling bikes you'd better take it to a local bike shop for setup. Count these extra expenses in your budget.
* I'm 5'7" and the seat is a bit too high for me even if I lower it to the minimum. I had to take out the plastic stick in the seat post and cut short about 2 inches so that the seat can be further lowered to fit me.
* It's too heavy at about $38 pounds. This makes it impossible to ride as fast as those road racers. Again, this is not a problem for me because I'm not a racer anyway and the weight gives me good exercise even in the short-distance commute. Instead, I have another problem: I live in an apartment in upper Manhattan NYC on the 5th floor with no elevator. Carrying this bike to the 5th floor in the narrow staircase everyday is really a pain.
* The brake is not really responsive. So you can't go down a deep hill to enjoy high speed.
I'd say I'm generally satisfied with the purchase ($240 including shipping) although I later realized I might have paid $20-30 more than its actual value. I recently bought a Marin Belvedere road bike for $300 incl. shipping from another online store for my wife which has higher-quality parts and includes aluminum fenders and LED light at 10 pounds lighter. If I have another chance to choose my bike I'd buy myself a Marin Belvedere unless the Shwinn Coronado is priced at $210 or lower including shipping.
Schwinn Coronado August 2, 2009 P. Bray (LA, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Fast Delivery, the bike arrived as described, While the weight was clearly described in the description, it was a little heavier than I expected. But it seems to be a good quality bike which definitely serves my purpose..
Choose a Local Bike Shop July 14, 2009 Brian L. Reindl (Wisconsin, USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
When I had a problem with this bike, I called Schwinn directly. The customer service representative told me that she would not recommend buying a bike online and suggested using a local bike shop to avoid problems. I agree. I was completely satisfied with a reputable local business. Amazon accepted the bike in return, and I appreciated that.
What I liked about this bike: aluminum frame, styling.
The problems: the front tire was defective, the directions don't match the way the bike is packaged when you assemble it which caused confusion.
Schwinn Coronado Men's Comfort Bike July 13, 2009 Juan Maillo-Cabrera (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very good product. Everything is as described, no surprises. The only thing I didn't like was when I had to adjust the brake pads and the screws tore the moment I applied a little bit of force with my allen key. It wasn't a big deal I was able to unscrew them from the back and get new screws before putting them back. The bad thing is that two out of two brake pads that I tried adjusting had the same problem. Other than that, frame, gears, suspension and even brakes work like a charm.
Good quality for this price July 6, 2009 Timur Gafurov (Washington, DC) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my first bike for many years. Still it was very easy to assemble it and make all adjustments. Majority of components are pre-assembled by Schwinn - rear wheel, front and rear brakes, chain and gears. Its even not necessary to make fine tuning at bike shop. Only suspension needs greasing. This bike is good on the road and goes perfectly uphill.
